Supporting College Student Success through Applied Learning: Considering Associations with Average College Grades, Graduation in Four Years, and Degree Aspirations

While previous research has examined the association between various forms of applied learning and effects on student outcomes, present study examines engagement in three distinct measures success. Using longitudinal data from Wabash National Study, this analysis relationship undergraduate participation students’ graduation within four years, fourth-year college grades, post-baccalaureate degree aspirations. Results suggested that certain experiences were associated with specific Specifically, odds years increased for students who participated internship, capstone, or abroad but decreased an independent volunteer experience. Applied higher grades included faculty asking to apply theories concepts practical problems new situations, completing study, a member, experience, applying exams assignments was lower grades. Finally, levels educational aspirations participating member abroad. Together, these findings emphasize need institutions education, faculty, affairs practitioners nuance opportunities relation success goals.
